Sri Subhuthi National School in Battaramulla had it’s very first introductory session on philately on 2nd August 2024. The session was attended by 50+ students from grades 6 to 9. In attendance were 3 of the teachers in charge of the stamp society, 2 deputy principals and the principal.
The introductory session was conducted by veteran stamp collector and educator Mr Gamini Silva along with President of PASL Mr Gihan Fernando enlightening the participants about the importance of having a stamp society and how joining PASL’s ‘SSC Network’ (School Stamp Society Network) could benefit the school in easy access to and joint ventures with other schools in the network for mutual benefit.
The next session to be held in 2-4 weeks will enable the students to have a hands-on session on creating a high standard exhibit for the upcoming islandwide exhibition to be held in 2025. Exhibit material were provided for the school for this for the students to get familiar with what to expect.
