Lanka Philex 2008: Stamp Exhibition

The Philatelic Society of Sri Lanka, which is in the forefront of promoting philately in the country, will be organising a stamp exhibition and competition at national level at the National Art Gallery on December 5 and 6.

It is the only society in Sri Lanka which holds a full membership in the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP), the philatelic governing body in Asia. The society is also represented in the Advisory Committee of the Philatelic Bureau of Sri Lanka.

The society held three stamp exhibitions and competitions in the years 1993/1998/2003, which were very successful.

This time the society hopes to hold the competition covering the whole island. The exhibition will consist of two categories, competitive and non-competitive (educational). There will also be on display valuable and rare philatelic material. The competition will be of four categories namely, age under 13, under 16, under 20 and over 21.

The intentions of the society are to promote philately especially among school children, to develop a culture of philately among Sri Lankans in general, and to assist all collectors to gain knowledge which would help them to complete at international exhibitions.

The society invites collectors, both young and old, to participate in this event.

A seminar will be held at Abeysingharamaya Temple, Panchikawatta, Maradana, Colombo 10 (Opposite Tower Hall) on August 3, at 10 a.m. to inform the adult participants of the rules and regulations of the competition.

A date for a seminar for school children will be notified through the principals of the respective schools.

All collectors are kindly requested to participate at the seminar as it will be very useful to them in preparing exhibits for competitions.
