“Kekulu Kodevva Stamp Society”  turns 9 years

In 2015, Mrs. Deepa Rangani Arachchige, a retired teacher of the school, was the pioneer in starting the “Kekulu Kodevva” Stamp Society of Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya and has now turned 9 years in 2024.

The society has been an active one with numerous events including participating at events outside of the school. Some events include:

  • Workshops by Mr. Ravindra Matara Arachchi – June 2023
  • Visit to Philatelic Museum and workshop by Philatelic Bureau – June 2023
  • Stamp exhibition event at St Johns College, Nugegoda – Dec 2023

As part of the annual proceedings, Kekulu Kodevwa Stamp Society 2023-2024 official badge wearing ceremony took place on 7th June 2024 at the School Main Hall.

A total of 102 badges will be awarded for students in Grade 6 to 11. The breakdown of badges is as follows:

  • Grade 6 – 20
  • Grade 7 – 19
  • Grade 8 – 15
  • Grade 9 – 28
  • Grade 10 – 16
  • Grade 11 – 4

As the chief guest, Mr. Gihan Fernando, President of PASL (Philatelic Association of Sri Lanka) joined the event. Mr Gamini Silva, a senior veteran philatelist who founded SLIPA  also attended the event as a special guest, also representing PASL.

Also attending as guests was the Principal of the school Mrs. Thushini Weerakoon, the Deputy Principal Mrs. Thilakarathna, the Assistant Principal Mrs. Nirosha Samanmali, the Assistant Principal Mrs. Sajeewani Udawatta, Assistant Principal Mr. Jayantha Kulasekara, Principal of Primary Section Mrs. Nadeesha Nissanka will join the ceremony. Joining them as guests would be Mr. Ravindra Matharaarachchi, who worked for the development of the Kekulu Kodevwa Stamp Association since its inception, and the current Secretary of the School Development Society. Representing the teachers in charge of the secondary section of the association, Also attending them as guest would be Mrs. Upulie Naurannage, Ms. Prasadini De Silva, Ms. DK Dilumi Meegoda, Ms. W. D. U. Malsha Madhurangi. The primary section would be represented by Mrs. A. Thyaga Dulangali de Silva, Mrs. H.M. Ranjani, Mrs. Manori Perera.
